WILDCAT BASKETBALL (5th and 6th grade Co-Ed)

Wildcat Basketball:  The 2025 inaugural season was a success and we're bringing Wildcat Basketball back in 2026! Wildcat Basketball is a competitive basketball league where the 5th and 6th grade boys and girls from all 5 elementary schools in Los Alamos get to compete for the title of being the fiercest wildcat! It will be a fun 6 week competition between the Aspen Tigers, the Barranca Bobcats, the Chamisa Cheetahs, the Mountain Lions and the Pinon Panthers! The #1 Wildcat team will "take home" the traveling trophy and get to display it at their school until the next champion is determined the following year! Teams will be expected to represent their schools proudly and display great sportsmanship on and off the court.

2026 Season Details:

Register:  November 21st, 2025 - January 2nd, 2026
Tryouts: January 9th--Must register for tryouts by January 2nd, 2026!
***Tryouts will be held to form 1 co-ed team per elementary school. Homeschooled children are welcome to tryout! Please register for the school that you are zoned for based on your address. However, if there are spots available on other teams (a team has uner 10 players), then homeschooled children can pick which elementary school to tryout for on a case by case basis.
Tryout Info:
Each school will be assessed during individual sessions on Friday, January 9th between 4:00-9:00pm at the YMCA--Must register for tryouts by January 2nd, 2026! Absolutely no late registrants will be eligible unless the team is under 10 players. Players must attend tryouts to be eligible to make the team unless they have an excused absence. On day of tryouts, players will need to bring a report card from Power School to prove their grade level and school that they attend.

If you do not think your child can make the time commitment for the season, please do not try out and allow other children the opportunity to participate instead.

COACHES: If you are interested in being considered for the coaching position of your child's team, you will need to indicate this in registration. You will then need to be available for tryouts. If your child does not make the team, we assume you will no longer be interested in coaching. If there is a situation where multiple people want to be head/assistant coaches of a team, we will potentially have to conduct interviews and assess your coaching style during tryouts. We will only have one head coach and one assistant coach per team.

Wildcat Season: January 12th - February 27th, 2026 (Jan. 19th=MLK Jr. Holiday--No practices)
Fees: $115 (Will be refunded 100% if your child does not make a team)
Practices: 6:00-7:30pm 2x per week (practices will most likely be held at the elementary school that the child attends but no guarantee with school construction projects. No matter where practice is held, your child will represent the school that they attend)
Games: Friday evenings (Saturdays only if necessary)

Program payment policy: Payment upon registration is required, no refunds, credits will be given on a case to case basis.
